    This is a rare superb original hand blown labeled “ Powdered Jalap “ medical bottle.. The bottle stands 4” tall 2”wide has a flared style top . It has a light blue original paper label that reads “. Powdered Jalap “. Note : Because of aging , some of the lable is missing .
    Jalap is a root of a plant that originated in the Andes Mountains in Mexico. In the Civil War ,physicians used Jalap as a cathartic ( emptying the bowels) to treat constipation .
    Most Civil War era medical bottles today are usually found unlabeled but now you have a chance at a Civl War era bottle with a label still attached.
