Description
Huge Civil War Extremely Rare Marked 6-Cavity Brass Gang Bullet Mold. By William Davis. Approximately .31 caliber balls. Marked ‘WD’ and although hard to see, ‘No 38’. Weighs almost 1 1/2 pounds! This is a great chance to own an original piece of Civil War history. I have never come across an English gang mold before, let alone one with a makers mark in such exceptional condition. The mark; ‘WD’ is identified in the reference book
The English Connection
by Pritchard and Huey as by William Davis (earlier misidentified as ‘War Department’). It is also noted that the vast majority of English molds were not marked (“maker marked molds are the exception to the rule”) so the mark, condition, and type of this mold make it a unique and desirable gem! Note that arsenal gang molds such as this were must often devoted to troop or military use and this would make excellent balls for ‘buck n balls’ of the earlier rifles. Although obsolete in England the vast majority of such molds were in high demand in the south and saw heavy export. This mold is from a US estate and given the scarcity of such molds deserves additional research.
It has NOT been cleaned or modified by me in any way. I’ve taken plenty of pictures from all perspectives so you’ll have no questions as to the mold condition, age, type, patina, etc received. Please note the book pictures and dollar bill are for reference and not included.
The pictures are of exactly what you’ll receive. Any questions please just ask. I’ll be happy to ship this mold worldwide!
This bullet mold would make a great gift for the collector of Civil War artifacts, bullet molds, British military/war department molds, 1850-1860s reloading antiques, rare reloading tools, or CS bullet molds!
I ship all my auctions the same day that payment is received. I’ll also ship worldwide for exact cost; please if your county isn’t an option email me, or after purchase send me a message and I’ll invoice you with shipping options.
Thank you and good luck!
