    GREAT CIVIL WAR ERA ARTILLERY CANNONBALL FRAGMENT- GETTYSBURG- ROSE FARM  - PIECE OF SHARPNEL  - MEASURES 3 1/8" BY 2 1/2" BY 9/16" - ON JULY 2ND -1863 THREE MILES SOUTH OF GETTYSBURG THE CONFEDERATES HIT THE FORWARD POSITIONED UNION III CORPS WITH AN ATTACK FROM TWO DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS - THE MAULED UNION CORPS RETREATED  TO THE EAST  FROM THE PEACH ORCHARD AND ROSE FARM ALONG THE EMMITTSBURG ROAD -THROUGH THE WOODS AND THEN INTO THE TWENTY ARCES OF FRESH STANDING WHEAT ON THE ROSE FARM  - THE FIELD WOULD TURN RED AS 20000 SOLDIERS BATTLED FOR HOURS - ATTACK AND COUNTERATTACK - CLOSE - HAND TO HAND COMBAT  - ARTILLERY SHELLS BURSTING ALL AROUND- 6000 CASUALTIES WOULD COVER THE GROUND - OVER 500 CONFEDERATES WERE BURIED AROUND THE ROSE FARMHOUSE AND OVER 30 ARTILLERY HORSES LAID DEAD NEAR THE FARM  - GREAT RELIC FROM THIS HISTORIC AREA OF THE GETTYSFIELD BATTLEFIELD
