    CAPT. WILLIAM ADAMS. This crutch belonged to Captain William Adams of the Union's 123rd Illinois, Wilder's Lightning Brigade. (mounted infantry)  Capt. Adams was wounded at Chickamauga, TN 9/1863.  I bought these 2 crutches together but I'm NOT selling the Private Shoemaker crutch.  I'm showing both crutches to show provenance.  Private Shoemaker carved the crutch for his Captain.  Pvt. Shoemaker was wounded at the Battle of Farmington TN (10/1863) only weeks after Adams was wounded.  They likely were in the same field hospital.  Shoemaker must have wearied of all the carving as Capt. Adams only got his name on his crutch.  Shoemaker's crutch has all the info.  It's obvious both were carved by the same guy.  Look at the type of wood, the shape, style, and lettering.  Measures 49 inches.  Just a spectacular relic used by an officer in Wilder's famous Lightning Brigade. Local pick up for now. You get ONLY the Capt. Adams crutch. Monument is honoring Wilder's Lightning Brigade at Chickamauga.
