Classic Confederate cavalry sword and scabbard by one of the most desirable southern makers: Kraft, Goldschmidt and Kraft of Columbia, S.C. Wade Hampton carried one of their swords and Custer prized another. Classic CS blade with unstopped fuller in very good condition with good edge and point, smooth metal, gray patina with minor rubs. Brass hilt with nice untouched age patina and slight reddish tone typical of southern high copper-content brass. Minor bends to guard branches. Original leather grip with small abrasions. Single iron wire binding in place, as is the ferrule typical of KG&K. Iron scabbard is missing throat and shows a very short narrow crack at the mouth, but is otherwise complete with carrying rings, brass ring bands, and separately applied iron drag blade. Scabbard shows brown with scattered shallow pitting and a couple of minor dings.
