    Description

2001-9 Africa's Natural Realms, Africa Today – National Geographic Map Poster
Most of the world's large animals died out in the Pleistocene Period, about 10,000 years ago, except in Africa, where people and large animals have co-existed for centuries. However, because of the rapid increase in humans, the balance is being upset. Poaching is widespread. This is a study of how conservationists are trying to strike a balance between protection of the animals and providing poor locals with the ability to feed themselves on wildlife meat. The map-side is titled “Africa Today” and contains a classic National Geographic political map of Africa with inset maps showing cultural divides, past colonization, population, wealth, wars, and creeping plague. The reverse-side contains a biological color-coded relief map of physical Africa, also with map insets, plus a discussion of the conflict between the needs of humans and animals.
    Map is approximately 20” x 31".
The National Geographic is known for it's fine maps & detailed information.
Supplement to the National Geographic Magazine; magazine is not included.
