    HISTORYICAL DATA ONLINE:
    T.W. Daugherty was born Dec. 1835 in Texas county Mo..  His parents were
    James Madison Daugherty
    and Eleanor McGehee Daugherty.
    James Madison Daugherty was born in Cherokee Indian Territory
    , and moved to Texas from Missouri, settling in Alton, in 1851.
    He was the second of seven children. He had a common education by a tutor his father hired.
    In 1849 at age 14 he moved with his family to Old Alton, Denton county Texas.
    He soon assisted in surveying the site for the town of Denton moving to that place and engaging in business until 1860, when he was elected to the state legislature.
    He served in the legislature for one term and then joined
    the confederate army as a second lieutenant
    , serving in
    Texas Indian Territory and Arkansas
    , rising to the rank
    of Captain.
    After the war he was elected J
    ustice of the Peace in Denton county
    .
    However, he was removed by Governor E.J. Davis as an obstacle to re-construction.
    From the close of the war in
    1878 he was in mercantile and banking business
    in Denton county, moving to
    Abilene in 1881
    and working as a clerk in a saddle shop and later conducting a grocery store.
    In
    1886 he was elected Justice of the Peace, serving one term and 1892
    he became a member of the Abilene bar.
    Judge Daugherty
    was married to miss Martha Rebecca White of Denton county in 1862, who survived him upon his death. He had joined the Masonic order and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.  He was a master of the Blue Lodge in Denton and past High Priest of the Denton chapter.  His children were R.L. Daugherty, J.T.

    CONDITION: It has normal letter folds and is in excellent condition. It is noted at the upper left as a copy but the item is handwritten and signed.  It is rare to find a letter in such great condition from this early!
    This item is approximately 8" X 5" in size.  The "EBAY ITEM" thing is just a loose piece of paper that is not attached to this letter.
